What is an Affiliate program?
An affiliate program (sometimes termed as an Associate Program) is a method by which companies may advertise on websites other than their own, this increases their distribution network and in turn increases brand awareness.
Website owners make money by getting paid commission on a click-through, sale, on a lead or on an impression of the affiliate owner’s page or their network. Often if customers buy via links on your site the commission is paid, where as paying per impression or lead is less likely to be offered. Some of the common terminology used by affiliate programs;
- Cost per acquisition, (CPA)
- Cost per click (CPC/PPC)
- Cost per mille (thousand) (CPM/CPT)
- Pay per click, cost per conversion (PPC/CPC)
If you have a site that generates traffic and is within a field where commercial companies operate then you can make money with affiliate programs.
You take on advertising as if you were a media company, (Like press or TV). You get paid a commission on results, simply put, traffic = revenue. It doesn’t cost you to join, and if results are poor, you can experiment with different ad-layouts or different companies. There are often vast differences between affiliate programs in terms of the payouts and payout structure. Shop around and you’ll see that whilst certain ad’s work extremely well others perform poorly, pay close attention to the click through rate and the click to conversion. Experiment.

Chat Room Lingo - Bingo Socialising
Online bingo players enjoy the banter. Socialising is one of the main attractions of a local Bingo Hall and online it’s no different. Joan recommends finding Bingo sites with chat functions to really get to love this game. I enjoy the banter as much as I do the game, so, here is a list of the common slang terms your likely to find in a Bingo chat room.
Lingo Meaning
AFK away from keyboard
A/S or A/S/L age/sex age/sex/location
BAK Back At Keyboard
BBL Be Back Later
BRB Be Right Back
BTU Back To You
FWIW For What Its Worth
GGP Gotta Go Pee
GL2U Good Luck To You
GR8 Great
HB Hurry Back
IRL In Real Life
IMO / IMHO In My Opinion / In My Humble Opinion
LOL Laughing Out Loud
OTFL On The Floor Laughing
R Are
ROFL Rolling On the Floor Laughing
TY Thankyou
U You
WB Welcome Back
WTG Way To Go
YW / YVW You’re Welcome / You’re Very Welcome
1TG/2TG/3TG 1 To Go/ 2 To Go/ 3 To Go etc.,(number left to get Bingo)
AFK, (away from keyboard) usually means I’ve popped out for a smoke or am boiling the kettle. It’s a good one to use if you need to leave for a short period.
Have fun! - Joan Bingo

Bingo - How to Play
Bingo is a great social game that can be played for money or fun.
UK Bingo
- The version of Bingo in the UK plays with the numbers between 1 and 90. You play bingo with tickets, each of which is made up of three rows and nine columns.
- There are 5 numbers in a row and every ticket has 15 numbers.
Bingo Books
- When you are playing bingo, a “book” can be bought, as these books are a group that has 6 tickets with all 90 numbers.
- A single book has 10 pages with 10 cards, each with a different colour: gold, violet, green, yellow, orange, blue, red, pink, white, and grey. As well as books, there are also bingo sheets, which are single cards with 6 sections on the 6 cards that are called “flyers”.
- Flyers cost more for a bingo game than books, but the prizes tend to be worth more if the player wins.
Bingo On and Off-Line
- Bingo can be played at large multinational bingo parlours and smaller bingo halls across the UK as well as online.
The caller of the bingo game will randomly pick numbers and then call them out to the players. The player must mark out the number if it appears on their ticket. Generally, players use crayons or bingo daubers in order to mark out the number using light colours that so the player can tell that the number is marked off. Nowadays they use advanced electronic boards in the chain bingo halls.
How to Win at Playing Bingo
- To win a game of bingo, one of three things must happen: the player gets all 5 numbers in the first row of their ticket, the player gets 5 numbers in both the first and second line of the ticket, or the player gets all the numbers in the 3 lines, which is called a “full house”.
- When playing bingo and one of the three winning scenarios occurs, the bingo player has to call out “house” in order to claim their win.
- If a player gets all five numbers in the first row, the bingo game ceases so the win can be validated. The bingo game then continues on until the time when all three lines on a ticket have been won. In order to claim a multiple win, the lines have to be on the same bingo ticket. Then, the pool for the prize is split between the three winning combinations. The biggest portion of the winnings will go to the player that has the “full house”.
The History of Bingo, (Beano)
Originating in the United States, bingo was called “beano“. A dealer would select numbered discs from a cigar box and players would mark their cards with beans. They called “beano” if they won.
Bingo’s history can be traced back to 1530, to an Italian lottery called “Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia,” this is still played every Saturday in Italy. From Italy the game was introduced to the French in the late 1770s, where it was called “Le Lotto“, a game played among wealthy Frenchmen. Germans also played an educational version of the game in the 1800s, to help students learn mathematics, spelling and history.
The game reached North America in 1929 and became known as “beano”. It was first played at a carnival near Atlanta in Georgia. N.Y toy salesman Edwin S. Lowe named it from “beano” to “bingo” after he heard someone accidentally shout, “bingo” instead of “beano”. A Columbia University mathematics professor, Carl Leffler, was employed to help him increase the number of combinations in bingo cards. By 1930, Leffler had invented 6,000 different bingo cards, (Legend says that Leffler then went bonkers.)
A priest from Pennsylvania approached Lowe about how bingo could be used as a means of raising funds for the Catholic church. After bingo started being played in churches it became increasingly popular. In 1934, an estimated 10,000 bingo games were played weekly in North America!
So, there you have it. The History of Bingo from Joan!

Bingo Lingo from Joan Bingo - Ryhming Bingo Calls
Ryhming Bingo Calls;
Much of the terms, (Lingo) used in bingo are simply based upon rhyming slang, similar to the kind used by Cockney’s in the East End of London England. For example, “Heaven’s Gate” is 78, simple right? You can make up your own if you wish and there are many variations used around different bingo halls.
Equally simple to understand are the bingo terms based upon the shape of the numbers. For example 8 looks like a fat lady, hence 88 is “Two Fat ladies”. Equally, 2 looks like the neck of a swan, so 22 is “Two Little Ducks”, 7 is a little crutch, 3 is a flea and so on. Mixing two numbers you end up with things like 87 - “Fat Lady on Crutches”! Other bingo sayings have these number shapes at their root, you just need to work backwards, for example, “Wobbly Wobbly” is 88…which is also “Two Fat Ladies”…getting it?

The BBC, which is predominantly funded through imposed license fees paid by British households with TV’s, said in a separate statement it accepted the fine.
The BBC continued; “Whilst we must never be complacent and must remain constantly vigilant, audience research suggests the comprehensive action we have taken is rebuilding the trust of viewers and listeners”.
